Danish Pictures

I finally finished putting together a couple of pages of pictures from our trip to Denmark a few weeks ago:

I was looking at your pictures of LEGOLAND Billund and enjoyed reading your comments! My wife will travel to Belgium this Fall and is thinking about bringing our 9 year old son David with her to visit LEGOLAND Billund. Our son is a Lego fan, especially of their new product line of Bionicle.

We as a family will travel to England in the Summer and will have the opportunity to visit LEGOLAND Windsor. Can you offer any comparison of the two sites? We're looking more for Lego creations and atmosphere. I've looked at the park web sites and see they both have many rides, but we have plenty of amusement parks close to home.

Any info will be appreciated.

Hi Geoffrey --

(You didn't leave an email address, so I'll respond here and hope you come back to read it ...)

I can't comment on Legoland Windsor, since I've never been there -- I've been to Billund twice and Legoland California once.

However, comparing the two parks I have visited, Legoland Billund is larger and came out far ahead on "atmosphere", while Legoland California felt a little 'green' and unfinished -- not surprising, considering the Danish park is almost forty years old, while all the other Lego parks are relatively new. Not only does Billund have more rides and a larger "miniland", it also has some not-so-kid-themed items like a toy museum (although the museum seemed to have shrank since my first visit in 2000, while the size of the merchandising operations increased ...)

Another thing that you might want to consider, however, is how easy it is to reach the respective parks; travelling from Belgium to Billund would be quite a journey (it's in the middle of Denmark, a considerable drive from any large city), while it looks like Windsor has easy and short rail connections from London.
