Made it to LA

We made it to LA with no further incident. No car fires this time around :). Turns out my parents hadn't even felt the quake--how funny. Unfortunately Disneyland fell through. My friend Jamie wasn't able to get tickets to us in time. But as luck would have it, it's been pouring rain all day today and isn't supposed to letup until after Christmas so it would have been miserable at Disneyland anyway. So I'm not too broken up about it.

What I am broken up about is Kevin's car. His clutch is really going (100k miles on the original clutch) and we took it in to my parent's trusted mechanic. Turns out he can't fix it because of some weird Ford configuration under the hood so it's off to the dealership. He also estimated the cost as over $1000. That's going to suck. Hopefully we'll get the car back in time to go up to the mountains for New Year's. Our mechanic sent it over to his friend at the Ford dealership and says we should have it back Friday--pretty good considering it's Christmas Eve and then Christmas.

My niece Corie is staying with my parents these past few days. It's fun to have her here (she's 8). Today she and my mom assembled a pre-baked gingerbread train. I was going to help but I was wiped out so I took a nap instead.

Before we left on Monday the last Amazon package of Kevin's presents arrived (of course, we unwrapped on Sunday night!). There were 6 gifts in there and he was surprised and pleased with them, but it wasn't quite the same as opening wrapped gifts. Oh well, what can you do? There's one more box coming so we had to leave a note at the neighbor's to ask him to keep an eye out for it.
